President’s Welcome

Welcome to the University of Michigan Retirees Association (UMRA). We are an active and vibrant group of retirees and their spouses/partners, eager to help you get connected, stay connected and feel connected to other retirees and the university. UMRA offers excellent programs and advocates for retirees on policies and governmental regulations that affect health care and economic security.

If you are currently a member, we thank you for your membership and are grateful for your loyalty and support.

If you are not yet a member, we encourage you to explore our website and learn what UMRA has to offer, even in this time of the COVID pandemic. We hope you will consider joining UMRA. At $15.00 it is a terrific value for either an individual or household membership. Your spouse/partner, even if not a retiree or university employee, is included in the household membership.

Our Events calendar will keep you up-to-date on programs and other activities we offer. Our monthly programs feature a wide range of interesting topics and speakers, are well attended and get rave reviews. Our travel programs and outings have been suspended until such time that it is safe for face- to-face get togethers. Watch your inbox for UMRA News, our monthly newsletter, for all the latest news information.

COVID-19 has kept us from meeting in person but that does not mean you have to miss our excellent programs. To learn more about our programs and outings just click on the Events tab on the main page to see the full calendar and details for each event. UMRA is using the U-M Zoom meeting application to live stream every presentation. Members get an email with the date, time and link to the Zoom meeting so no matter your circumstance or where in the world you live, you can view our programs in real time on your computer or other smart device. Programs are also recorded and are posted to the website. If you cannot join us for the live stream, you can watch the program, at your convenience, by simply logging in to the Members Only section of the UMRA website and selecting the program you missed.

Each monthly session typically has two components. They begin with an informal “learn and grow” presentation focusing on practical information for retirees. The “learn and grow” session is followed by a short break and announcements before the featured speaker begins their presentation. The Zoom meeting application allows participants to ask questions so you can pose your question and engage with the speaker if you like.

We have recently updated the website and continue to add features as we are able. In addition to streaming programs and posting them to the site we have, at the request of many members, added the ability for members to their pay dues online. This feature has been positively received by the membership.

UMRA is always looking for program ideas, topics and speakers or venues of interest for our day trips. We welcome help from any member who would like to be more involved with the organization. Whether your interest is joining a committee, serving on the board or being part of a planning group, there is a place in UMRA for you. We want to hear from you so don’t hesitate to contact us at

UMRA sponsors provide important financial support for our programs and events. Sponsors offer an array of services targeted to the interests and needs of retirees. Please keep them in mind should you have a need for any of their services. A list full list of our sponsors can be found on the main page. Just scroll down and click on Our Sponsors.

We look forward to the time when we can once again meet face-to face. Until that time, be well and stay safe.

Get Connected. Feel Connected. Stay Connected.
