Member Guide
Adding your Spouse to Your Membership
Membership for your spouse or partner is included in your membership fee whether or not he or she worked for the University of Michigan. Adding your spouse or partner, which requires an email address, will grant them joint membership (referred to as a Household) under your account and the full benefits of UMRA membership, which includes the ability to:
- log into this web site and manage their Profile.
- access members only web pages.
- register for members only programs on their own.
- receive UMRA emails directly (your spouse or partner will not need to ask you to forward emails in order to keep up with UMRA news and member offerings).
If you originally joined as a Household,
Browser Cookies
Cookies are small pieces of data, stored in text files on your computer or mobile device for the purpose to “remember” you and your preferences, either for a single visit (through a “session cookie”) or for multiple repeat visits (using a “persistent cookie”). They ensure a consistent experience for visitors, and perform essential functions such as allowing users to remain logged-in while visiting multiple pages.
Cookies may be set by the site that you are visiting (known as “first party cookies”), or by third parties, such as those who serve content or provide advertising or analytics services on the website (“third party cookies”).
UMRA requires the use of Cookies for the purpose of “remembering you” for login, events, paying invoices and profile updates. You must enable third-party cookies in your browser. No information is retained about your browsing history or personal information. No “third party” cookies are used by UMRA to provide advertising to any external service.
Here are some links that go over how to enable third-party cookies in the most popular browsers:
Creating Your Account
Creating your UMRA account begins when you join UMRA either online or by printing and mailing our membership form (see Join/Renew). When joining, you must provide us with an email address address. Once reviewed and processed, you will be sent an automated email to the address you provided with a link to create your password.
The link in the above email takes you directly to a form to create your password which must be eight characters.
For security purposes, the time between receiving the email and you creating the password is 72 hours. If that happens, instead of this screen to create your password, you will see a screen to re-enter your email and another password activation email will be sent automatically.

Events
All UMRA monthly meeting speakers, local trips, Learn & Grow sessions and Health Days are presented under a single menu labels Events with a default view that resembles a traditional monthly calendar.
Notice a few highlighted areas:
- a Search option. Enter any portion of the event name or details and search will present a list of entries.
- a color-coded legend that identifies events by various categories.
- a View List option to see all events presented as a list instead of the regular monthly view.
Clinking on any event will display all the details. Some events will have additional information fliers that you can review or print for your convenience. Click the “back to” link to return to the regular Event calendar or List view.
List view. Click the ? at the end of each event to see full details.
Forgot/Change Your Password
Any of the Member options, like Profile and Directory, will immediately present a login screen:
Whether you wish to change your password, or you forgot your password, click on “Forgot your password” (circled above) and an email will automatically be sent to the email we have on file for you. You should receive that email anywhere from 10 minutes to 2 hours depending on the speed of email servers at that time of day.
Once receive, the process follows that of Creating Your Account. The email will contain a highlighted link for you to click and you will be presented with the following form:
Similar to when you created your account, the link is only available for 72 hours. After that you will have to click a different link in the automated email to request another.
